TileCounter vs. the Tracking Sheet

Here's how TileCounter stacks up against some of the world's best-known systems.

At the Koala Coaching CLinc, author and five-time Australian Champion John Holgate points out that 'Common mistakes in tile- tracking are crossing off the wrong letter or failing to mark off a letter already played.' Thus,'Two Australian expert players - Mark Oliver and Alan Weinstein - developed a system for avoiding this which makes tracking easier.' The TileCounter system was also developed with the same goals in mind.

Let's compare this easier system with TileCounter:

The Oliver-Weinstein Variation   Tile Counter
Write down the word you actually played - underlining any tile or tiles on the board - e.g. HOTHEADS   No need —it's right there on Count board. And Image Board
If a blank is used circle it.   If a blank is used the asterisk will be grayed out. Tap to see what letter it represents.
Do the same after your opponent’s move.   No need.
Then immediately (or at some point in the game when you find yourself with time to kill) cross off the corresponding letters on your tracking grid.   Look at the grayed out letters
When you have completed each word give it a tick.   (When do they have time to play the game?)
This method gives you the flexibility to concentrate on a critical rack or board situation and worry about the tracking later.   This method gives you the flexibility to concentrate on a critical rack or board situation and worry about tracking never.
Towards the end - with maybe seven to ten tiles left in the bag - underline on the grid the letters on your rack...   Look at the orange letters
..and circle the letters unseen (in the bag or on your opponent’s rack)   Look at the black letters
..then list the circled letters underneath the grid.   ...continue to refer to the black letters
Finally, count the tiles in the bag (yes, the players get to stick in the hand in the bag and blind count tiles) and check if they tally with the number of circled letters on your tracking grid.   Info on game board, TileCounter Image board, or End Game feature
And there you have it. That's what Tile Tracking is.

That's what Tile Tracking on digital/mobile age is.
